Aam Panna

Updated: Apr 8, 2019

Aam panna is a popular north Indian drink for hot summer. It is made using raw mango, salt, sugar and spices. It is considered a shield against Loo (hot air) which blows in peak summer. It replenishes all essential salts and minerals and protects from heat stroke.

Aam Panna is a good substitute of unhealthy cola drink and a good source of vitamin B1 and B2, niacin, and vitamin C. I always use jaggery instead of white sugar which is also a good source of iron. Mint and coriander leaves are good appetizer and add a nice flavor.

Ingredients:

3 medium size green raw mangoes.

1 cup jaggery or Sugar

1 tab sp roasted cumin powder

Black salt to taste

Salt to taste

Black pepper-1/2 tsp.

Ginger-1 inch piece

1cup water

1 tab sp Mint leaves (pudina patta)

Coriander leaves-2 tsp.

Ice crushed

How to make-

Wash, peel, remove the seed and pressure cook mangoes with water and jaggery till soft.

Let them cool and churn to smooth paste and strain it.

In a pan mix mango pulp, salt, black salt and all spices

In a grinder, grind chopped mint, coriander leaves with water and sieve into mango pulp mixture.

Refrigerate it.

To make the drink : take a tall glass add 3-4 crushed ice cubes, pour 3-4 tab Sp of the raw mango mixture and pour chilled water in it.

You can adjust the quantity of sugar or jaggery as per your taste.

This mixture can stay in refrigerator for 15 days

For mock tail you can add soda instead of water.
