Gold Coin Idli:

Today I am going to share the recipe of idli in a different style which you can serve in breakfast or tea time snacks. Super easy to make and great variation from regular idli. it is a nice combination of idli and vada. If you are not a fan of idli, I am sure this recipe is definitely going to become your favourite.

Ingredients For Idli batter:

  • 1/2 cup Rice

  • 1/2 cup Whole Urad Dal without Skin

  • Rock Salt to taste

  • Water -as needed

How to Make Idli Batter:

  1. Soak rice and dal separately for 5-6 hours.

  2. Now in a blender first grind dal till it is smooth. Remove it in a big air container and set it aside. Now take rice in the same blender Grind till it is smooth and soft. Remove this in the same container. Add salt mix well. Cover the container with a lid and leave it for 8-10 hours to ferment. Once the batter is fermented mix it completely with a spoon and put it in the refrigerator.

  3. When you are ready to make idli, mix the batter once again.

Ingredients for aloo masala:

  • 2 t Sp. oil

  • 1 t Sp. mustard seeds

  • 1 t Sp. Cumin seeds

  • 1 small onion

  • 2 green chilli

  • 1 t Sp. ginger finely chopped

  • 1/2 t Sp. turmeric powder

  • 1 t Sp. Coriander Powder

  • 1 tsp. Garam Masala

  • 3-4 boiled potatoes

  • 5-6 curry leaves

  • 1 tab sp. coriander leaves

  • 1/4 cup grated cheese

  • salt to taste

How to make:

  1. In a big pan heat oil, add heeng, curry patta, mustard and cumin seeds.

  2. When crackle adds onion, green chilli, ginger and saute for 2 minutes.

  3. Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, saute for a minute.

  4. Add mashed potatoes and mix very well and cook till crisp.

  5. Add garam masala and coriander leaves and mix well.

  6. Keep aside and cool down.

  7. make small balls, place some cheese in it, make round balls and slightly press it.

Tips-

  1. You can add any vegetables of your choice like carrot, cabbage, capsicum, spinach etc.

  2. Always make small ball which place only in center.

How to make Gold Coin idli:

  1. Grease idli moulds with oil.

  2. Mix Idli better and fill half the mould with idli batter.

  3. Place small ball size aloo masala over it.

  4. Stem for 15 minutes or until idlis cooked properly.

  5. Cool down and take out from the moulds.

How to Serve:

  1. Place idlis on a platter.

  2. In a pan add heat some oil, add mustard seeds, when splutter add curry leaves. green chilis and white til and cook for a minute,

  3. Add 1/2 t Sp. red chilli.

  4. Spread this tadka over idlis.
