Homemade Orange Sherbet or Squash

Summers are almost here so are the coolers for hot weather. Oranges of good quality are available in the market. Let’s make orange squash, a healthy and tasty energy drink, soothing in summers, and an apt substitute for aerated cold drinks. It takes less than a minute to prepare a serving.


Ingredients-

  • Orange juice - 750 ml.

  • Sugar - 500 gm.

  • Water- 500 ml.

  • Lemon Juice- 3 tab Sp.

  • Orange Peel- 1 tab Sp.[optional ]


How to Prepare-

1. Mix water and sugar in a pan and boil for 4 to 5 minutes (thread-like consistency is not required).Add lemon juice and stir. 2. Strain the syrup to remove the impurities and let it cool to room temperature. 3. In mean while start making orange juice and sterilized the bottle. 4. Immediately add strained orange juice in sugar syrup otherwise juice may become bitter. 5. You can add orange peel for nice texture, colour and flavor. 6. Take 1/4 cup orange squash and mix potassium meta bisulphite very well and add to whole orange squash. 7. Pour into sterilized bottles.

8. Close lid tightly and store at clean dry and cool place. Refrigerate once bottle lid is opened.

Howto Serve- 1.For a serving: take ¼ orange squash and ¾ water, add ice cubes.

You can also do- 2.Take a tall glass ,add 2 tsp soaked basil seeds, 4 ice cubes, 2 tb Sp. orange squash fill with cold water, garnish with mint leaves and lemon slices.

For Sterilization-

  • Wash glass bottles properly with soap.

  • Take water in a big pan and boil it on high flame.

  • When water starts boiling slip the bottle and boil them for 4 to 5 minutes on high flame.

  • Add lid also and boil 2 3 minutes more.

  • Switch off the flame and take out the bottle and lid carefully with the help of tong and place them on wooden board. Tips-

  1. Always touch sherbet with clean and dry hands.

  2. For Orange peel: Grate only yellow part of skin, never grate white portion.

  3. You can add orange colour and orange essence.

  4. Shake the bottle before use.

  5. Always use fine glass bottles.
