How To Store Food in Monsoon
During the rainy season, the moisture in the air increases to very high level, bugs and insects grow and spoil the food easily. Thus, it becomes really important to store our grains, pulses, spices in such a way that we can prevent being wasted and spoiled.
Here are few tips to store food correctly in rainy season-I have found it to be effective so hope it works out for you too.
when you buy grains see that they are free from bugs, first clean, dry and store in airtight containers. you can place cloves and bay leaves on the cabinets and shelves to keep insects away.
Rice- Tie camphor in piece of cloth and place in rice container.
Wheat- Add Neem leaves in the wheat container.
Ground Flours- Add some bay leaves in ground flours like-wheat, jawari, Nachni flours.
Pulses- Dry roast pulses before storing airtight jar. Add dried whole red chili in every container. you can also add boric powder but while using wash properly 4 to 5 times.
Suji and Dalia-Dry roast suji and dalia. store in airtight container and place in refrigerator.
Spices-keep asafoetida or heeng in spices prevent the spices for spoiling.
Dry Fruits- Dry fruits must be kept in zip lock bags and ideally in the freezer.
Sugar- First add few rice grain in the bottom of glass jar than add salt or sugar. Rice grains absorb extra moisture. Clove has strong odor and because of this Ants or other insects don't come in sugar.
Bakery- In the rainy season biscuits and other dry goods become wet under their packing. Just put them in the oven at 100 °C and all the humidity will dry out naturally. You can also store in airtight container and place in refrigerator.
