Honey Chili Lotus Stem[Crispi Kamal Kakdi]

Crispy Lotus Stem is a very unique and healthy snack as lotus root is rich in vitamins. It is a gluten-free and vegan recipe that has spicy chili and honey flavor at the same time. The honey not only enhances the taste but also balance the spices. It is a very simple indo Chinese recipe with a few simple ingredients. Ingredients-

  • 1/2 kg. Lotus Stem

  • 4 tab sp. Corn flour

  • Oil for frying

  • 1 t Sp. garlic finely chopped

  • 1/2 inch ginger finely chopped

  • 5-6 whole Kashmiri Red Chili

  • 2 tab Sp. Honey

  • 1 t Sp. White Vinegar

  • 1 t Sp. soya sauce

  • 1 tab Sp. Spring Onion

  • 1 t Sp. sesame seeds

  • Salt to taste

How to Make-

  1. Wash, Peel, and soak lotus stem in water.

  2. Cut the lotus stem in thin slices. Wash thoroughly in running water, drain extra water.

  3. Add cornflour and mix it thoroughly so each slice coated well.

  4. Heat the oil and deep fry till golden and crisp.

  5. Soak dry red chili in water for an hour.

  6. In a grinder add garlic, red chile, and 2 tsp. water and grind into a fine paste.

  7. In a deep wok heat some oil,add red chilli paste, honey, soya sauce, salt, vinegar and 2 tab sp. water and mix well.

  8. Add fried lotus stem and give it a nice mix.

  9. Switch off the flame, sprinkle sesame seeds and spring onions.

  10. Serve immediately.

Tips-

  1. Wash the lotus stem thoroughly to remove dust in it.

  2. You may adjust the quantity of honey as per your taste.

  3. Slice lotus stems thin and even, so they cook evenly.

  4. Serve immediately otherwise it becomes soggy.
