Jal jeera is a very popular summer drink from north india.This drink calm down the heat of you body and helpful in digeshion. It is mostly served as a street food in matka [ large earthen pot ], covered with red colour cloth, which keeps jaljeera cool.

jaljeera means cumin water. The main ingredients of this drink is cumin which has lots of health and digestive properties but every single ingredient of this recipe has cooling and digestive properties and ingredients like heeng, mint leaves and sauf add sweet and nice aroma also. Usually it is served as appetizer but can be served with meal or after meal as digestive drink.


Jal Jeera--Summer Drink-

Ingredients-

  • 1 tab sp. TamariPulp

  • 2 tsp. Cumin seeds

  • 1/2 cup Mint leaves finely chopped

  • 1/2 cup Coriander leaves finely chopped

  • 1 tsp. Black salt

  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper

  • 1/2 tsp. asofoetida [ heeng ]

  • 1 tsp. Ginger grated

  • 2 tsp. lemon juice

  • 1 tsp. fennel seed

  • 1 tab sp. boondi [ optional ]

  • 1 tab sp. Sugar [optional ]



How to make-

  1. Dry roast cumin, black pepper, and fennel seeds and grind into fine powder.

  2. In a chutney jar add ginger, green chill mint and coriander leaves, grind into fine paste.

  3. In a large pan add tamarind pulp, black salt, heeng, green paste, sugar and dry masala.

  4. Add water and mix well.

  5. Place in the fridge or add ice cubes, add some crispy boondis over top.

  6. Serve chilled with some lime wedges and mint leaves.

Tips-

  1. you an adjust sugar and salt according to your taste.

  2. Instead of tamarind you can use lemon juice or raw mango paste.

Step by Step Jaljeera Recipe-
