Teas of winter

In winters Tea is the most favorite drink of all. A hot cup of tea brings relief from chilling cold and stays warm. Many variations of tea also help in boosting immunity in addition to their unique taste. I am bringing here series of winter-warming, immune-boosting herbal teas which have natural healing properties and lots of health benefits of spices and herbs. I hope you all like a lot, so stay cozy all winter along with these easy-to-make teas.

Ginger Tea-

Ginger basil tea made with fresh ginger and fresh basil leaves is a great way to beat off the winter chill. Drinking this herbal tea can help fight the cold, relieve congestion and throat pain improve digestion and detox your body. It tastes stronger and smells awesome.


  • 2 cups boiling water

  • 1inch grated ginger

  • 4 fresh basil leaves

How to Make-

  1. Add the grated ginger and basil to a teapot and pour the boiling water over it.

  2. Brew for 5 minutes.

  3. Sieve out using a strainer.

  4. Enjoy hot

Ashwagandha Tea-

Aswagandha is a popular short herb in Ayurveda which has dull green leaves and bell-shaped flowers. The taste of this herb is slightly bitter and earthy. it has been used for thousand of years to improve brain function.

Tea is the best way to consume Ashwagandha. Ashwagandha tea is beneficial to reduce anxiety, stress, insomnia and regulating your hormones. A cup of Ashwagandha tea, taken before bed helps restful sleep and ease winter time anxiety. In this tea I added some aromatic spices cinnamon, clove, cardamom and nutmeg which reduce the bitter taste of Aswagandha. Add honey if you want to sweetening your tea.


  • water 1 cup

  • Ashwagandha powder 1/2 t Sp.

  • Cinnamon powder 1/4 t Sp.

  • Clove 1

  • Cardamom Powder 2

  • Nutmeg powder 1/2 t Sp

  • Honey 1 t Sp. If you need to sweetening your tea

  • lemon 1/2

How to Make-

  1. Mix all ingredients except lemon juice together in a pan and heat it till it's boil.

  2. Ina cup add honey.

  3. Strain tea in a cup.

  4. Add the lemon juice while the mixture is hot and drink it.

  5. Enjoy.

Masala Chai-

Masala Chai, a flavored tea, brewing with tea leaves, aromatic Indian spices, milk and sugar. Masala tea is originally an Indian tea with a nice aroma of spices, rich and milky, deeply coloured and steaming hot . Now it is popular around the world and now days Masala tea is an important part of any good restaurant menu card. Markets are flooded with so many tea brands, but my suggestion is, try this fool proof winter recipe and impress your friends and family. This recipe is very close the masala chai available in the good tea restaurant.

If you want to make masala chai regularly, make chai masala powder and store it in the air tight container and use when needed.


For Chai Masala

  • Green Cardamoms--------5

  • Cloves----------------3

  • Black Pepper-------2

  • Cinnamon-----------small stick

  • Fennel seeds---------1 t Sp.

  • Nutmeg powder----1/4 t Sp.

  • Star Flower-----------2

For Masala tea-

  • Water-------------------2 Cup

  • Ginger grated ------ 1 t Sp.

  • Basil Leaves-----------2-3

  • Tea leaves-------------11/2 t Sp.

  • Milk----------------------1/4 cup

  • Sugar------------------- to taste

How to Make-

  1. Dry roast spices and in a chutney jar grind into fine powder. Store in airtight jar.

  2. In a saucepan, boil water, add spice powder,ginger and boil for 2-3 minutes.

  3. Add sugar as per your taste, add tea leaves and boil for 1 minute. if you want strong tea boil for 2-3 minutes.

  4. Add milk and boil for 2 minute.

  5. Strain the tea.

  6. Serve hot with hot snacks, biscuits etc.

Lemon ginger turmeric detox tea

Turmeric, an ancient Ayurvedic spice has an active compound cure- cumin is known to have a wide range of medicinal benefits including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, and antiviral activities. It is also the liver’s favorite spice and helps boost liver detox.


  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ginger

  • 1/2 teaspoons fresh turmeric 4 black pepper corn

  • 1/2 inch cinnamon sticks 4 Basil leaves

  • 1/2 tsp. Honey {optional]

  • 2 cup water

  • 1-Lemon

How to Make-

  • 1. Grate ginger and haldi into thin slices.

  • 2. In a pan boil water over high heat. Combine the grated ginger, Haldi, pepper, cinnamon and basil leaves. Boil for 5 min on low flame.

  • 3. Remove from heat and strain in a cup.

  • 4. Add ½ fresh lemon juice and honey right before you serve.

Tips- 1.Leave the ginger and turmeric pieces in your tea cup or strain them out if you prefer. 2. You can store it in a large mason jar in the fridge and drink it every morning
